                                       "America's Heartbeat - is it's Veterans"
     Bill was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. Upon graduation from high school he entered the United States Navy, serving during Vietnam. He achieved the rank of E7 - Gunner's Mate Chief. He was awarded the following medals and ribbons: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, Conbat Action Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Metritorious Unit Commedation, Navy Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Ribbon, Good Conduct 6 Awards, Battle Efficiency 'E' Ribbon and the Navy Achievement Medal.
 
     After serving 28 years he retired in 1988 off the USS Butte, stationed in NWS Earle, New Jersey. While serving in New Jersey he met and married his wife Rose in 1989.
 
     Upon his retirement, he became a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and immediately became actively involved and served on many committees and chairmanships on the Post, District, Department and National level. He served through the chairs and was elected District Commander 1994-1995.
 
     Bill set his sights for the Department level and served as State Guard 1997-98, 1999-2001 and Judge Advocate 2002-2003. He has served as chairman of the following committees: Youth Activities, Patriot's Pen Youth Essay, Robert Hacker Memorial Scholarship, Voice of Democracy, Mid Year Conference and Membership Director. On a National level, Bill served as a member of the National Legislative Committee, Voice of Democracy Committee and the Finance and Internal Organization Committee.
 
     Bill was elected State Junior Vice Commander at the State Convention in June 2003 and continued through the Department Chairs. On June 18, 2005, when he was elected and installed as State Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of New Jersey 2005-2006. One of his proudest moments was being recognized as and 'All American State Commander' by the National Organization.
 
     Together, Bill and Rose are proud to be members of this great organization and are fully dedicated to all Veterans, who have served to keep our Nation free.
